Monday October10, marks the 110th anniversary of Henry Ford's first and only race

Monday, Oct. 10, marks the 110th anniversaryof Henry Ford's first and only race, when he upset Alexander Winton, a premier car builder and the best racer of the day. The unlikely victory helped Ford attract the investors to help him start Ford Motor Company in June 1903.

Henry Ford was not a racer, but that didn't stop him from getting behind the wheel for a race that is still being talked about 110 years later. Edsel B. Ford II tells the story of his great-grandfather and how he beat the best racer in the country with a car he built himself.

A lot has happened since Henry Ford raced Sweepstakes against Alexander Winton in 1901 - enormous growth and progress, innovations, spectacular successes and some notable failures, interesting characters, exciting cars and racing action - all in all a rich and diverse heritage over a century plus a decade.
